Money—we all need it, we all use it, and let’s be honest, we all think about it a lot. But have you ever stopped to ask: what does God say about money? Spoiler alert: God isn’t against wealth. He doesn’t want us broke, stressed, or living paycheck to paycheck. But He also doesn’t want money to run our lives.
God calls us to manage our money wisely, to use it to bless others, and to keep Him at the center of it all. Let’s dive into what the Bible says and how we can actually live it out in our day-to-day.
Let’s dive into the Bible to see what does God say about money and how we can apply these truths to our everyday lives.
1. Money Is a Tool, Not a Master
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” — Matthew 6:24
Money isn’t evil—but the love of money? That’s where we start spiraling. God wants us to see money as a tool. Not a master. When chasing a bag becomes more important than chasing Him, it’s time for a heart check.
Action step: Ask yourself—are your money goals aligned with your faith goals? Is your money serving you and your purpose, or is it calling the shots?
2. God Calls Us to Be Good Stewards
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” — Luke 16:10
Everything you have—yes, even that paycheck—comes from God. And He expects us to manage it well. Budgeting, saving, giving, spending wisely—all of that is part of being a good steward.
Action step: Start budgeting like you’re managing His money. Need a tool to help? Grab my free debt repayment tracker below to get started!
3. Generosity Reflects God’s Heart
“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7
God blesses us so we can bless others. Giving with joy, not guilt, is a reflection of who He is. And it shows that money doesn’t own you—you’re in charge.
Action step: Find one way to be generous this week—big or small. It all counts.
4. Avoiding Debt and Living Within Our Means
“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” — Proverbs 22:7
Debt can feel like a straight-up prison. God doesn’t want us bound to lenders. That doesn’t mean all debt is sinful—but it does mean we need to be careful and intentional.
Action step: If you’re working on paying off debt, choose a method that feels doable—snowball or avalanche. My free debt repayment tracker can help!
5. Trusting God Over Wealth
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19
It’s tempting to think we need to hustle forever just to survive. But God promises to provide. That doesn’t mean we don’t work hard—it means we work with faith, knowing He’s got us.
Action step: When that money stress creeps in, pause. Pray. Remind yourself of His promise.
6. Money Should Not Define Our Identity
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” — 1 Timothy 6:10
Your value isn’t found in your bank balance. Your identity isn’t your net worth. You are a child of God, period.
Action step: Set goals that align with who you are in Christ, not just financial milestones.
Final thoughts
God cares about how we handle money because He cares about us. He doesn’t want us broke. He doesn’t want money to be our boss either. He wants us to be wise, generous, and focused on the bigger picture.
So what does God say about money? He says: steward it well. Give freely.
Trust Me.
And don’t forget who you are.
